Just a quick post to anyone who is interested in taking part in questionnaires about synaesthesia or just reading up on it - these are british websites and they are linked to a documentary aired in the UK in 2004.

This is the website by the programme makers of the documentary:

This is all very new to me, but I'll give it a go.

I stumbled across Live Journal thorugh Google whilst trying to find out about a 'condition' I have called Synaesthesis. Apparently up to one in 20,000 people have this. "A person with synaesthesia on percieving sound may also experience sensations of taste, colour, smell etc in addition to the percieved sounds." I have the most common form, which is called Graphemes. This means that I associate letters or words with colours. I see the colours when I visualise the words - I always have done, and the colours never change. My name, Nadia, is bright red.

I only realised that the visuals I had were uncommon and had a 'name' a few years ago when I was chatting to some people at work. They thought I was being a bit strange when I asked them what colour they saw their names in, apart from one who told me she thought I had Synaesthesia. I looked it up and was surprised to find thousands of websites dedicated to the condition. It made me feel quite special and explained a lot of things for me - such as why I'm not very good at Maths and Languages (this is a common trait for people with this condition) and why I always confuse my lefts from my rights.

I joined Live Journal in order to actively take part in the Community dedicated to this condition and to chat to others who have it in order to find out more about it and myself. I have only spent an hour on this site so far, and already I have learnt a lot.

Sorry if the overall 'look' of my pages are rather dull - I dedicate most of my internet time to the upkeep of a couple of 'spaces' I have on MSN Spaces (now called Windows Live). I would be delighted if you would visit them at some stage: http://bluewings2.spaces.live.com/ and http://nabdulgani.spaces.live.com/

Many thanks. Keep rocking, Nadia xx
